GALACTA 25: Terrain update

Some cool Retro-style terrain for GALACTA 25 games!

Picked up this set on Amazon. Figured it would come in handy for scatter terrain for my Galacta 25 games and even find some use in RPG's as well.

Overall really happy with the set. If I felt like spending time on it I could even spruce up the pieces with some modeling and basing.

For now I'm just going to use them as is. See the photos below.

25mm Heritage Galacta 25 miniatures for scale.

Here is a closer look at everything you get in the set:

A few pieces are a little big for 25mm figures but no so terribly much it will really matter for what I'm using them for.

Warm up your Lasers and get ready for battle!!!

GALACTA 25: Galactic Rebellion

Battles in Quadrant 44! The Solar Alliance vs. The Galactic Consortium.

Using the Hertiage games rules from 1980. Two skirmish battles were played to determine the current situation in the White Star RPG taking place on the borders of  Red Shift sector Kelron and Blue Shift sector Venturi.

Players:  Mightyeroc and Mark E.

Solar Alliance forces:  64pts
1 Leader/ Star Knight Swordsman
1 Rebel Adventurer
1 Female Assault leader
1 Alien Squog
1Planetary Striker Officer
1 Planetary Striker Trooper
1 Security Robot

Galactic Consortium forces: 72pts
1 Stormtrooper Officer
2 Stormtroopers
1 Octopoid Section Leader ( Hired Mercenaries)
1 Octopoid Cannonier
1 Octopoid Grenadier
1 Warbot

The 8 point difference is on purpose as the G.C. has considerably better supplies and access to reinforcements than the S.A.  This can change depending upon the actions of the Players in the White Star: Star Rogues campaign and the outcomes of these miniature battles.

Battle 1: GC ground assault.

This battle started off with the loss of the Rebel Adventurer and the Alien squog in the 2nd Turn by the Warbot and Stormtrooper Officer. By turn 3 the Solar Alliance inflicts heavy casualties on the GC taking out the Octopoid cannonier and both Stormtroopers.

Star Knight dispatches Octopoid Cannonier.
Turns 4 & 5 go poorly for the Solar Alliance, as they lose the Planetary Strikers, Female assault leader and the Star Knight swordsman in quick succession. Leaving only the lone Security Robot to flee the Rebel position and report the attack to the remaining Alliance forces back at their command base.

For the first game I played the Solar Alliance and Mark controlled the Galactic Consortium. There were some tense moments and cries of anguish as dice rolled poorly, and hearty bellows of "Oh yeah!" as dice rolled well!

Planetary Striker defeats GC trooper in melee. Battle 1.

We then swapped forces reset the battlefield and played the second game. Since the GC won round 1, we decided they were pushing on and attacking the Command base of the Alliance forces.

Battle 2 layout. Alliance Command upper right.

Battle 2: Assault on Alliance Command.

The second battle sees the Galactic Consortium roll in Hot! The Alliance forces dig in for cover and try to hold the line!

The Octopoid Cannonier and Grenadier inflict first blood taking out the Planetary Striker and Security Robot respectively.

The Alien squog snipes a Stormtrooper, as the forces close in on each other and laser bolts scorch the landscape!

The last three turns quickly become a deveasting loss as the Consortium forces overwhelm the harried Alliance team. The Warbot blasts the Female Assault leader and alien squog, while a Stormtrooper kills the Rebel adventurer in Melee.

The Star Knight Swordsman holds the Stormtrooper Officer in melee combat for two turns before falling to his laser-sword.

The octopoid forces swoop in and clear the field of the remaining Alliance forces and the Galactic Consortium raised thier flag in victory.

GC stormtroopers move in.

Octopoid section team, deadly mercenaries.

Galactic Consortium: Victorious

Solar Alliance: Defeated

The outcome of this miniature battle will now affect the overall background in the White Star campaign. Keep your eyes peeled for more postings coming soon.

GALACTA 25: Star Wars mini-rigs Part 2!

In part 2 of the Galacta 25/Star Wars mini-rigs mash up, we will add the awesome MLC-3 to the game!!

As usual we have our Planetary Strikers showing us all about this new addition to Galactic devastation.

The MLC-3 is a large tracked and armored vehicle built for combat. This vehicle can be found in use on both sides of the conflict.

MLC-3, or Mobile Lazer Cannon 3 is a pretty standard battle-tank. The heavy tracks allow it to ignore Rough Terrain and smash through Blocking Terrain on a +6 Driving check. Any Blocking Terrain the MLC-3 successfully smashes through becomes Rough Terrain.

The Dual Lazer Cannons are not to be taken lightly as these devastating weapons can pulverize most Terrain obstacles and other vehicles or fortified emplacements. Roll a D12 for each cannon and if both rolls score hits on the same Blocking Terrain target, that terrain piece must be swapped out with a Rough Terrain piece.

Galacta 25 game Stats:
MLC-3
Armor save: 6+
Crew Capacity: 3 figures; Driver/Gunner/Commander
Defense: Dual Lazer Cannon, 20" range, 7+ to hit, +1 modifier to targets armor save. Turns Blocking terrain into Rough terrain if both Cannons Hit.
Movement: 9"
Driving Check 6+ if smashing through Blocking Terrain, no check for Rough Terrain.

Galacta25 & HexBug Nano-space terrain: a match made in Heaven!!!

On a random trip with my wife to a 5Below store I found a ton of this HEXBUG nano-space stuff in the 50% off section. I thought this would make some cool terrain to use for Bases and Installations in my Galacta games. Take a look at the pics and tell me what you think.

Added a papercraft Space:1999 Computer column for effect.

The pieces interlock together and there is quite a variety of ways you can put them together. Create anything from large bases to small outposts.

GALACTA 25: Kenner Star Wars Mini-rigs join the fight! Part 1

It is time to travel to the war torn galaxy of GALACTA 25! The next few posts will center on some vehicles for use in battles between the Evil Galactan Empire and the hardy forces of the Rebellion.

We shall start with a Mini-rig used by both sides equally, the PDT-8. Otherwise known as the Personnel Deployment Transport-8. A trio of Planetary Strikers will put this vehicle to work!

The PDT-8 is powered by a large pair of RAAG (Rocket Assisted Ant-Gravity) Thrusters, giving the PDT-8 a movement range of 24". Like single figures using a RAAG belt, the PDT-8 makes it's movement by essentially jumping from one location to another. The PDT-8 is allowed to jump from its starting location and "leap" over blocking terrain features, rough ground, or other figures without penalty and land up to 24 inches away.

The PDT-8 can deploy a single squad (6 figures) in the turn after it lands from a RAAG assisted Jump. However piloting a PDT-8 is tricky, and should the PDT land in Blocking terrain or Rough ground it must make a 6+ save or crash, rendering the vehicle useless for the rest of the battle.

The PDT-8 is a light transport vehicle and therefore has an armor save equal to 8+. It is immune to damage from Lazer/Flame pistols.

For defense the PDT-8 is armed with a pair of  Lazer Assault Rifles. A figure must remain in the craft to make use of these weapons. The guns can only hit targets in front of or behind the PDT-8 in 90 degree arcs.

Galacta 25 Game Stats:
PDT-8
Armor save: 8+
Troop Capacity: up to 6 figures
Defense: 2 Lazer Assault Rifles, 16" range, 8+ to hit
Movement: RAAG jump up to 24" from starting point.
Piloting Check 6+ if landing on Blocking Terrain or Rough ground.

GALACTA 25 rules for Battle!

I was asked about what rules I use for playing Galacta 25. I use the original rules included with the Heritage Paint & Play box sets of Star Commandos and Galactic Rebellion.

In 2006 Mudpuppy games published an updated version of the rules that used hexes for movement & ranges and added all sorts of creatures and other forces. However it seems that the Mudpuppy rules are hard to find. I f anyone has any info on that leave it in the comments  below.

I have made a PDF of the original rules that came in the box sets from Heritage (see link below). Have fun and let me know about your battles across the galaxy!

GALACTA 25: Heavy Shock-Troops

More GALACTA 25!!!

This squad is painted in standard Rebel colors.
The Heavy Shock-Troops of the Galactan Empire are a rightfully feared force. A standard 4 man squad can decimate just about any resistance it encounters. Fitted for both close & ranged fighting as well as high mobility due to the RAAG assisted jump capability the troops should not be underestimated.

A standard Imperial Galactan squad consists of 4 troopers, 2 of each type. This formation can be switched around to include any mix of the types, but a squad is never more than 4 men.

The Rebel Forces have a hard time getting this type of armor and will never be able to field a squad of more than 2 men chosen from the Types listed below.

HEAVY SHOCK-TROOPER Type I:
Move: 6" / 12" RAAG Belt*
Melee: 6+
Save: 5+
Armament: Lazer Pistol 8+/8" (x2) & Flame Pistol 6+/4"

HEAVY SHOCK-TROOPER Type II:
Move: 6" / 12" RAAG Belt*
Melee: 6+
Save: 5+
Armament: Lazer Pistol 8+/8" & Blast Cannon 7+/24"

Special Attack: *RAAG Belt assisted melee attack
All shock-troops can attempt a special melee attack utilizing their RAGG belts. This "Death from Above" tactic is done by doing a RAAG movement and landing in a space already occupied by other troops. Using the base of the figure as a template see how many opposing figures the Trooper will land on. This counts as a 5+ melee attack and any targets suffering a Hit must make an immediate saving throw or be squished by the Shock-Trooper landing on them!!

Galacta: Warbots of the Galaxy

Galacta 25 update: At long last the Warbots of the Galaxy have arrived! Though there are many types of standard size warbots and armed robots used by both the Galactan Empire and the Rebel forces, we are focusing today on the Ultimate in battle technology used by both sides in this conflict.

Galactan Empire Warbot:
RB-1 Warbot & Tech
RB-1 Warbot (Robbie)
Move- 6"   Save- 6+  / *Repair-7+
Close Fighting- 7+
Weapons:
x2 Blast Cannon: range 24" / 7+Hit

The RB-1 can mount two weapons. Warbots can move without penalty outdoor and through rough terrain. A weapon mount can can be replaced with the Jammer effect (see Jammer bot).

Rebel Forces Warbot:
B9-AT Warbot & Tech
B9-AT Warbot
Move- 6"   Save- 6+ / *Repair 7+
Close Fighting- 7+
Weapons:
x1 Blast Cannon: range 24" / 7+Hit
x1 Repeater laser cannon: range 20" / 8+Hit, fires twice, targets within 4" of each other.

The B9-All Terrain Bot was a heavy duty workhorse that was quickly converted by Rebel forces to match the power of the Empires RB-1. A weapon mount can be replaced with the Jammer effect as well. Sometimes the B9 can be found at Rebel bases being used for construction and general purpose work. Instead of weapons it will have Anti-grav lifters or possibly bore drills depending on the job.

*Repair 7+ - This secondary Save only comes into play if a figure has been assigned to the Warbot as a Technician. If the Warbot is knocked out of commission by an failed Save, the Technician can make a Reapair save to get the Warbot back online. If this Repair save fails the Warbot is destroyed.

Quadrant 44 News break: Mercenary ships sighted, Galactan Empire responds!

A squad of Galactan Troopers was summoned to a disturbance just outside the Spaceport boundaries on Quillan V. A Warbird class mercenary fighter was spotted landing illegally. No shots were fired as an exchange of credits and a crate of cryo-frozen Thoks was slipped to the Galactan Sgt.

It seems the two Mercenaries had the "correct" permits and were allowed to go on their way. Never a dull patrol on Quillan V.

The Mercs sealed the cockpit and blasted off for space!

**So it looks like those cool new Guardians of the Galaxy spaceships work great with miniatures. Now I have to go back and get a couple of Necro-pods, Nova Patrol ships, and a Milano! These will be made use of in my Star Frontiers and Galacta 25 games. Might even make an appearance in Starships & Spacemen RPG
