The Dark Caribbean - Pirate Borg Campaign background

 Background for the campaign in the Dark Caribbean


Currently there are three sets of crews sailing abouth the Dark Caribbean. The campaign begins in 1692 and the Wretched are making waves. The threat of the Scourge is growing and the Crews are discovering the secrets that swim all around them.


Timeline Events that are in play:

1) The climate shifts: skies darken, storms rage, and a foul mist arises every dawn and dusk for a few hours before dissapating. May 1692

2) Port Royal has been devasted by an earthquake. Thousands killed, more are homeless. June 7th, 1692.


Twenty Questions & Answers about the Dark Caribbean

1) What are the active Religions in the Game?  There are 8 active religions the game: The One True God, Mother Nature, The Ancient Gods (Greek/Native/Celtic etc.), Chaos, The Deep ( Davy Jones), The Dark One, The Church, & The Great Old One (Cthulhu).

2) Where can we go to buy standard equipment? Any major or minor Port of Call, and most smaller settlements have a trading post.

3) Who is the most powerful Sorcerer in the Caribbean? Davy Jones

4) Who is the Richest personage in the Caribbean? There no one paticular "richest" person, but there are many quite well to do Island Governors and Pirates who fall in this category.

5) Who is the greatest Pirate in the Caribbean? This can change, currently it is Captain Hendrick "Gunpowder" Martin of the ship "Cry of the Murderer" followed by a Captain Davies of the ship "Eye of Chaos".

6) Where can we go to get our ship repaired.upgraded? These types of things have to be done in a Port of Call large enough to handle ships of your type and have Shipwrights in residence.

7) Where can we get alchemical healing and magical trinkets from? see Question #8, these things must be discovered in treasure hoards and or gifted as rewards from Patrons, or specifically sought from those who can create them. 

8) Where can we get cures for the following: poison, disease, curse, ability drain, lycanthropy, death, undeath? Most mundane issues can be dealt with by medical equipment available in any Port of Call, supernatural maladies may require the help of Alchemists or Voodoo witchdoctors and/or Priestesses who must be sought out through rumors and tales.

9) Is there a magic guild my Sorcerer belongs to or that I can join in order to get more spells? No, all Sorcerers devote themselves individually to the wellspring of their power. They may or may not trade information amongst one another but there are no organized groupings.

10) Where can I find Specialist Crew NPCs to hire? Specialists are generally found only in Major ports of call, however a few may hiding out on secluded uncharted isles and must be sought after by rumors.

11) Where can I hire additional regular crewman? Most any port of call will have any number of scallywags willing to fill empty slots on a ship, beware your reputation can precede you and may or may not work in your favor.

12) Is there a particular place where weapons are illegal, magic is outlawed or any other notable hassle from Authority? Magic is severly frowned upon in any port or isle under Spanish rule (Beware the Inquisition!), Major British or French ports will have laws, but bribes and subterfuge can take of most of this. All other locations are pretty much on a live and let live type of rule code. The Brethren abide by the Pirate code aboard ship and land.

13) Which way to the nearest tavern? Ask any sailor or salty sea-dog.

14) What monsters are terrorizing the area sufficiently that if I kill them I can reap rewards? Skeletons, Zombies & Ghosts are rampant and most will furnish you with ASH upon destruction. The ASH is valuable but the dangers of seeking the undead are quite high.

15) Are there any wars brewing I could go fight? The British, Spanish & French are constantly at war with each other at any given time, and you could Privateer for any of them. Be aware of shifting alliances though. See question #16 , about the Factions in the Dark Caribbean.

16) Who are the warring Factions in the Dark Caribbean? There are five Factions of note in the Caribbean: The Brethren of the Coast, the British/West India Co., the French Indies, the Viceroyalty of New Spain/Inquisition, the Wretched.

17) Are there any secret societies with sinister agendas I could join and/or fight? Yes, many of them and the rumors and clues to them must be pursued to find them.

18) Who are the Pirate Lords? This is a loose group of currently powerful Pirates in the Caribbean. The roster can change and as of late names the following: Hendrick "Gunpowder" Martin / Samuel "Bloodwhip" Butcher / Penelope "Penny" Goldgrin / John "Glow Bones" Jones.

19) Any legendary lost treasures I could be looking for? There are many, like the Black pearl of Atlantis, the Trident of Poseidon. As well as all the lost treasures that lie hidden along the Yucatan coastline and in ruins scattered about the Caribbean itself.

20) What are the deadliest creatures in the Dark caribbean? The Kraken, Davy Jones, & the Leviathan.
